象徴主義 Symbolism!

兄と私は週末、農場の準備や新しい家の将来的な設営のために外出していました。幸いなことに、いとこが私たちの代わりに家を見守ってくれていて、すべて問題ないか、動物が農場に入っていないかを確認してくれています。
その点検の際に、家や農場、そして道路一面が雪に覆われた写真を撮ってくれました。

まるで「冬のワンダーランド」とも言えるような景色でしたが、よく見ると上空には太陽の光が差し込み始め、空は深い青色でした。私にとってそれは、未来を象徴するサイン、あるいは二つの世界の交差のようにも感じられました。

というのも、周防大島に移住する前、兄と私は北海道に住んでいたのです。そう、日本最北の「冬の島」です。実際、日本で過ごした人生の大半は北海道でした。
だからこそ、新しい家が雪に包まれながらも、その上に太陽の光が差している光景は、これまでの私たちの旅路をとてもよく表しているように感じました。

雪は別れを告げているのでしょうか。
太陽はこんにちはと言っているのでしょうか。
本当のところは誰にも分かりません。
でも私は、これを「過去からのメッセージ（雪）」と「温かく明るい未来の象徴（太陽）」として受け取りたいと思います。

それに、私たち家族がこれまで住んできた場所は、すべて「太陽と雪」の両方がある場所だというのも面白いですよね。
ハワイ、周防大島、そして北海道。
少し大げさに聞こえるかもしれませんが、ハワイでも冬にはマウナ・ケア山の頂上に雪が降るのです。
つまり、「楽園」にも寒い瞬間はあるということですね。

時間が経つにつれて、私はますます未来が楽しみになっています。
これからたくさんのチャンスや冒険、物語、そして発見が待っていることでしょう。
私たちの未来がどうなるかは分かりませんが、これまでと同じくらい素晴らしいものであってほしいと心から願っています。

素晴らしいいとこたちに感謝します。
いつも支えてくれて、本当の「家族」とは何かを教えてくれてありがとう。

My brother and I were away for the weekend getting some things ready for the farm and our eventual setup of our new house. Luckily for us our cousin watches the home for us to ensure everything is okay and no animals have gotten into the farm. But on his inspection he took a photo of the property where the snow covered the home, the farm and road. It created what some would call a winter wonderland but if you look above, the sun beams were starting to show and the sky was a deep blue.

For me this was a sign or somewhat of a symbol of the future. Or maybe even a meeting of both worlds. See prior to the relocation to Suo-Oshima, my brother and I lived in Hokkaido! Yes, Japans winter island all the way to the North. In fact most of our lives in Japan has been spent there.

So to see the snow cover our new home but have the sun breaking through above, kind of perfectly reflected our journey thus far. Is the snow saying goodbye? Is the sun saying hello? Who could really know. In the end I choose to see it as a symbol of a warm and bright future but of course a note (the snow) from our past.

I also found it funny that all the places we have lived as a family has both sun and snow. Hawaii, Suo-Oshima and Hokkaido. It might sound like a tall tale but Hawaii does snow during the winter on the top of Mauna Kea. So yes, even “paradise” has its cold moments.

As time passes I’m so excited for the future. There are so many opportunities, adventures, stories and discoveries to be made. Who will know what the future holds for us. But I hope it is as amazing as things have been so far.

Thank you to our cousins for being amazing. Thank you for supporting us, and helping us show what real family looks like.
